Nexpro 40 Tablets are used in the treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). The active ingredient present in Nexpro40 is Esomeprazole Magnesium 40 mg. Esomeprazole Magnesium is a white to slightly colored crystalline powder and is slightly soluble in water.

Use

Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitorwhich is used in the treatment of dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD/GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Esomeprazole is the S-enantiomer of omeprazole and study claims improved efficacy of this single enantiomer product over the racemic mixture of omeprazole

Mechanism of action

Esomeprazole is a PPI that suppresses gastric acid secretion by specific inhibition of the H+/K+ ATPase in the gastric parietal cell.

Dosing

Take Nexpro tablets exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.Nexpro is usually given for 4 to 8 weeks only. Your doctor may recommend a second course of treatment if you need additional healing time.Take each dose with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. This medicine should be taken at least one hour before a meal.Take this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the condition is fully treated. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse while you are taking this medicine.

Side effects

The side effects of Esomeprazole Magnesium tablets are given below. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to this medicine such as hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using Nexpro 40 mg tablets and call your doctor at once if you have any of these symptoms of low magnesium such as:
• confusion
• uneven heart rate
• jerking muscle movements
• muscle weakness
• seizure (convulsions).

Overdose

Overdose symptoms may include confusion, headache, drowsiness, blurred vision, fast heartbeat, nausea, dry mouth, sweating, flushing, shortness of breath, tremor, loss of coordination, or seizure (convulsions).

Precautions and warnings

1. If you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction, seek emergency medical attention.

2. Possible symptoms include difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, swelling, chest tightness, skin rashes, and hives.
